Bernalillo County DPS Mail Review
The DPS form asks for the subject's name, Social Security number, date of birth, aliases, the authorized recipient, and a mailing address. The subject signs before a notary. DPS requires the original signature, so an emailed scan does not meet the stated process. The packet goes to DPS Records in Santa Fe with payment. A Police Certificate of Good Standing with the check costs $33.

Criminal Record Types
Criminal records in Bernalillo County follow custody and jurisdiction. APD or BCSO may hold a report, MDC may hold the booking, and a court may hold a case with a different final charge. Second District hears felony trials. Metropolitan Court handles felony first appearances, misdemeanors, DWI, domestic violence, and traffic matters. State prison and adult supervision results belong to NMCD, while federal dockets and custody use federal systems.

Do not confuse Metropolitan Court with Metropolitan Detention Center. One is a state court; the other is the county jail.
Bernalillo County Lomas Records Split
Two major court counters sit next to each other downtown but handle different case work. The Second Judicial District Criminal Clerk is in Room 119 at 400 Lomas Boulevard NW. Public windows run weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the criminal clerk number is (505) 841-7444. Case numbers speed a request. If the number is unknown, the court says a defendant's name, date of birth, and Social Security number may help identify the right file.
Metropolitan Court is at 401 Lomas Boulevard NW. Its first-floor Records Viewing Room has public computers and is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Metro records extend to 1984, but the staff do not sell a general criminal-history check. The County Clerk is not the custodian for these judiciary files. Security also matters: ordinary visitors may not bring phones, laptops, cameras, weapons, sharp tools, food, or several other listed items into Metro Court.

Inside a Bernalillo County Criminal Record
A Bernalillo County criminal record must be read in context. The same name may appear in a booking profile, court docket, and DPS history with different fields. Public Case Lookup suppresses personal identifiers and does not show document images. A clerk copy can supply the filed complaint, motion, order, judgment, or sentence. The MDC detail page uses a year of birth rather than a full public birth date and did not show mugshots in the sample reviewed.

A dismissal ends the charge but does not, by itself, erase the arrest entry. New Mexico expungement requires the proper statutory order and implementation by the agencies named in it.
MDC Is Not NMCD
The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center holds people in local pretrial custody and some local sentences. The New Mexico Corrections Department runs state prisons and adult probation and parole. NMCD says its Offender Search has no jurisdiction over county or city detention facilities. Prison information updates nightly, while probation and parole information updates in real time, with a 24-hour allowance advised for prison data.

Public Access Laws in New Mexico
The New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act gives a broad right to inspect public records, subject to stated exceptions and other lawful limits. It does not make every criminal record an open online file. Ask the court for pleadings, the arresting agency for reports, MDC for local custody, and DPS for a subject-authorized state history. A custodian should permit inspection at once when practical and generally respond within three business days. A broad request may receive a written explanation and an estimated date.

Bernalillo County Warrant Fallbacks
No verified public BCSO list of all active warrants exists. A safe check starts with the issuing venue. Search the court docket, then call the NMCourts help line at (855) 268-7804, Metropolitan Court at (505) 841-8151, or the Second District pretrial office at (505) 841-5479 when that office is tied to the case. Albuquerque Municipal Court handles its own matters. The warrant table inside an MDC booking detail shows warrants connected to that booking, not every outstanding warrant.
Someone resolving their own Bernalillo County warrant should identify the docket, call the issuing court, confirm that the warrant remains active, and get current court-approved appearance, surrender, and bond directions. Search warrants may be sealed before execution, and clearance can lag after court action. Never send funds to an off-site caller who claims to settle a warrant.

Sealed, Expunged, and Restricted Records
New Mexico's Criminal Records Expungement Act took effect in 2020. It provides routes for mistaken identity, release without conviction, dismissal or acquittal, and some convictions after a waiting period. DWI, crimes against a child, offenses that caused great bodily harm or death, sex offenses, and embezzlement are excluded from conviction expungement. A petitioner must also meet completion, pending-case, custody, and payment conditions stated in the law.

A petition goes to district court in the county where the arrest or charge began. The filer must serve the listed agencies and prosecutor as required. If an entry remains, compare the order's identifiers and agency list with the record. Send the certified order and a clear discrepancy note to the office that still holds the data. A broad IPRA request will not replace that correction step.
Bernalillo County Region II Supervision
Adult probation and parole in Bernalillo County are state-run through NMCD, not a county probation office. Region II Standard Supervision serves Bernalillo and Valencia Counties. Region II Special Programs serves Bernalillo and Sandoval Counties. The main Albuquerque offices are at 615 First Street NW, with intensive supervision, sex-offender supervision, community corrections, high-risk supervision, and other named units. Public NMCD results can show a supervision status, but detailed officer notes, treatment records, risk assessments, and home addresses are not presumed public. Confirm a probation sentence or revocation filing in the court record.
Bernalillo County Criminal Records by City
City lines shape the first request. Albuquerque police records stay with APD. Rio Rancho and Edgewood each have their own police and municipal channels, even though only parts of those cities reach Bernalillo County. The official 2025 whole-place estimates rank Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Edgewood as the top three incorporated places touching the county. Their totals do not represent only the Bernalillo County portions.
Albuquerque Criminal Records
Population estimate 556,588. APD reports, MDC bookings, and the unique Metropolitan Court define the local path.
Rio Rancho Criminal Records
Population estimate 114,419. Confirm the incident's county before choosing the booking and court system.
Edgewood Criminal Records
Population estimate 6,157. The town crosses county lines, so the exact event location controls the route.
These are whole-city population estimates. Rio Rancho is mostly in Sandoval County, while Edgewood is mostly in Santa Fe County.
Cross-County Bernalillo Record Checks
A city name alone does not settle jurisdiction. For a Rio Rancho or Edgewood event, confirm the street address and which agency responded. A Bernalillo-side arrest may lead to MDC and Bernalillo courts, while an event across the county line may produce a Sandoval or Santa Fe County booking and case. The police report still starts with the city agency that created it.
Federal records add one more layer. The District of New Mexico's Albuquerque courthouse handles federal cases, and PACER holds the federal docket rather than state or county cases. The PACER portal requires registration.
